How the silver price is calculated
We show an attributed market reference, make the units explicit and keep the arithmetic visible. A spot quote is a benchmark, not a promise of what a local buyer or seller will pay.
Price source and update cadence
The live quote is supplied by Corgano Silver Price through its public silver-price API. The feed reports silver in USD per troy ounce, daily movement versus its previous close and an update timestamp. The page requests the quote at load and refreshes about every two minutes while the tab is visible. The provider says its live series updates approximately once a minute when markets are active.
We display the provider’s timestamp rather than treating the time the page loaded as the time of the quote. Network errors, market conditions and upstream delays can make a displayed value stale. When a refresh fails, the page labels the last saved quote as cached rather than presenting it as current.
Weight conversions
The standard precious-metals unit is the troy ounce. We use the exact relationship 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 grams. For a quoted price per troy ounce:
- Price per gram = price per troy ounce ÷ 31.1034768
- Price per kilogram = price per troy ounce × 1000 ÷ 31.1034768
- Estimated spot value = price per gram × entered weight in grams × silver fineness, if fineness is known
The on-page calculator estimates fine-silver spot value from the weight and unit selected. It does not currently infer purity or subtract dealer costs; enter the weight of fine silver itself if you need a fine-metal estimate.
Currency display
USD values come directly from the feed. INR values use the provider’s corresponding INR conversion in its latest response and are formatted for Indian number grouping. When the IP lookup identifies India, the page selects INR; when it identifies the United States, it selects USD. Other locations default to USD. Visitors can always change the currency buttons. These conversions are reference exchange-rate calculations, not executable foreign-exchange quotes, and can differ from bank, exchange-counter or dealer rates.
Location display
The homepage estimates a visitor’s city and country from their public IP address through IPWhois.io, then includes that place in the heading. This lookup is approximate and may resolve to the visitor’s network gateway, VPN or service provider rather than their physical location. It does not change the spot-price source or claim to provide a local dealer quote. If the lookup fails, the page falls back to the general silver spot heading.
Daily history
The small chart uses daily closing prices in USD per troy ounce from the same provider’s history endpoint. A daily close is not an intraday tick. On weekends and holidays, the most recent point may be from the prior trading day. The history chart is kept in USD so it is not confused with the live INR conversion.
What spot excludes
The displayed benchmark is before taxes, duties, fabrication, shipping, insurance, dealer premiums and dealer spreads. Coin or bar premiums can vary with product, mint, condition, availability and location. Jewellery value can also depend on workmanship, stones, design and verified purity. This page does not estimate any of those amounts.
